St Oswin’s was built in the 19th Century as a convent. Since then it has been through a number of manifestations until Tyne Housing bought it and completely refurbished it, converting it to a 14 bed forensic mental health unit.

It is designed to Code 3 sustainability (a standard for new housing) having high levels of insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps.  The existing slate roof was renovated and the existing single glazed windows were replaced with high performance double glazed timber framed units.

The facility provides 24 hour support for residents and contains training and catering kitchens and staff office facilities in addition to two day lounges and the resident’s rooms.
